Abortion Conversation...
The topic of abortion is very sensitive in nature but is also a topic that should be discussed for many different reasons.
It is very important that the correct terminology is used in a discussion regarding abortion as to prevent offending and/or upsetting anyone. Although in saying this, it is easy to confuse what you are trying to say by using the wrong phrase or term.
To avoid this, I've created a glossary of key words/phrases below, most of which have been used throughout this project:
Abortion: the deliberate termination of a human pregnancy, most often performed during the first 28 weeks.
Pro-Life: Instead of saying 'Pro-Life' you should try to say 'Anti-abortion' which is pretty self explanatory. If an individual is 'Anti-abortion' they are against abortions. ‘Pro-life’ inaccurately suggests that those who support access to safe, legal abortion are ‘anti-life’.
Pro-Choice: advocating the legal right of a woman to choose whether or not she will have an abortion.
Embryo: An embryo is an early stage of development for an unborn baby. During this period of growth, a tiny fertilized egg divides and develops to a point where it starts to resemble a newborn
Foetus: The term (literally meaning "little one" in Latin) referring to the preborn baby after eight weeks's gestation.
Gestation:
Sanctity of life: The idea that all life is precious and holy.
Viability: The point in development at which a baby could be born with some change of independent survival.
Trimester: A period of three months; pregnancy is divided into three trimesters.
Foetal rights: The rights of the unborn child. Anti- abortion groups and individuals campaign for foetal rights.
Ensoulment: The point at which the foetus receives its soul from God, and therefore becomes a person.
