A HARD PILL TO SWALLOW - ABOUT MY PROJECT
A Hard Pill To Swallow is an original Multimedia Journalism project exploring the strict abortion laws in Northern Ireland.

Despite being a part of the UK, abortion is illegal in Northern Ireland in almost every circumstance, including when the pregnancy is a result of rape or incest, and when the foetus has a fatal abnormality that means it would not survive outside of the womb.

Unlike the rest of the UK, the 1967 Abortion Act does not extend to Northern Ireland meaning women there must travel to the UK mainland, and sometimes further, to access this basic healthcare or could face a lengthy prison sentence.

A Hard Pill to Swallow looks deeper into the policies and people keeping these outdated laws in place and the controversy that comes with it.

Being from Northern Ireland I felt even more compelled to cover this topic.
